Once upon a time, in a cozy house on Dagmar Road, lived a very special family. There was a mommy, a daddy, and three energetic and unique children: Peter, who loved to ride dirtbikes; Emily, who was obsessed with dancing, like a graceful ballerina; and Tommy, who dreamt of becoming a professional baseball player. They saw braille used by blind people, Popsicles and magnetic locker paper all had been created by teenagers. 3. John Jr saw ear muffs and crayon holders were also invented by kids. John Jr was really surprised at the inventions of children. 4. John Jr and Vasi saw that Ben Franklin started inventing stuff as a young boy with his invention of swim flippers. They thought it was really neat that Christmas lights were also a kids idea. But the thing that amazed John Jr and Vasi was the invention of the snowmobile. 5. John Jr and Vasi bought a souvenir and headed home. They were trying to think of something they could invent. They possed an unmatched sense of wonder and possibility.

Page 3 They walk along the riverbank and find tall reeds. Rami explains, “We use these reeds to make papyrus, a special paper for writing.” Ava gently touches the soft green stems. Page 4 Next, Rami leads them to a huge pyramid. It points high into the sky. “Pharaoh Khufu built this long ago,” says Rami. “Our people believe the pharaoh is very important.” Page 5 Inside the pyramid, they see stone walls covered with hieroglyphs, the ancient Egyptian way of writing. Pictures of birds, eyes, and shapes tell stories about the pharaoh’s life. Page 6 They quietly walk into a room with a sarcophagus, a big stone box that holds a mummy. “This mummy was once a great ruler,” says Rami. Sam and Ava feel a little scared, but also very curious! Page 7 At midday, they visit the busy market. People trade goods like wheat, dates, and cloth. “We use boats to carry our goods along the Nile,” explains Rami. Sam and Ava see bright, woven baskets full of fruit. Page 8 It is time to say goodbye. Rami waves. “Come again!” Sam and Ava open the magic book and zoom back home. Their hearts are full of wonder at all they have learned about Ancient Egypt.
